improve your understanding of biomechanical compensation, trigger points
and the anatomy of the low back and hips. You will sharpen your skills
in assessing myofascial involvement of the gluteus maximus and medius,
quadratus lumborum and gluteus minimus. Cathy teaches her courses using
her vast experience in the Travell methodology and from her knowledge
of myofascial therapy and structural integration. Completion of this

This unit identifies problems of the piriformis and iliopsoas, thoracolumbar
erector spinae, serratus posterior inferior and abdominals. The content
is based on the highly beneficial approaches presented in Myofascial
Pain and Dysfunction by Doctors Travell and Simons. Emphasis is placed
on ice and stretch technique-- trigger point release and myofascial
manipulation. Assessment of postural distortions and perpetuating
factors will also be featured. Note: Weekend units can be taken in
any order. Choose one weekend, or all five units that will be offered
between now and August 2004.

Become a certified Reflexologist. Level I is a stand-alone class.
Taking this class will give you the knowledge and working skills to
start offering Reflexology to your clients immediately, thus enabling
you to make more money this season. In this Level I offering, you
will learn a detailed foot reflexology routine. You will gain a complete
understanding of the anatomy of the feet, how the feet relate to the
whole body and the foot reflexology points. In addition, you will
learn the proper techniques to avoid injury to the thumbs and fingers.
You will leave class feeling great and ready to perform complete reflexology
sessions. To become certified, you may choose to complete Level II
and the Level III Proficiency/Certification classes

Learn a complete application of Shiatsu Massage that has been specifically
adapted for work with chair massage. You will learn a complete 15-minute
protocol for the head, shoulders, arms, back and hips, with additional
techniques for the chest, quadriceps, knees and calves. Techniques
will also be taught in the evaluation and treatment of shoulder problems
along with other tools to enhance the effects of Chair Massage. Also,
learn how to select your market and promote this profitable practice
building technique.

Pre-requisite:
Students should have completed Acupressure
massage or have a good understanding of the meridians and
the theories of TCM. This class is one where you will learn by doing
and is all hands-on participation. You will learn the routine for
a Japanese Floor Shiatsu massage using both your hands and feet. You
will be giving and receiving this work for two full days!

| MEET
OUR PROVIDERS Cathy
Cohen, BA, LMT
- Ms. Cohen has practiced myofascial techniques since the eighties
within a variety of clinical settings. She has developed and is the
instructor of Beyond Trigger Points Seminars, a particularly effective
treatment strategy for the management of chronic muscular pain. Cathy
has a degree in Biology from George Mason University and has been
a dedicated student of classical dance, martial arts, and yoga for
over thirty years. Cathy is both a dedicated massage educator and
Licensed Massage Therapist. She is deeply committed to furthering
the professional development of massage therapy through quality education.
Monna
Coons, LMT, NCTMB, CR, HHP- Ms. Coons is a graduate of Desert
Resort School of Somatherapy in California and received her Reflexology
Certification through the International Institute of Reflexology in
St. Petersburg, Florida. Ms. Coons has over 10 years of private practice
and teaching experience and currently owns Alternative Health Therapy,
a massage and continuing education business.
Michael
McConnell, LMT, NCTMB - Mr. McConnell is the owner of the
Florida Wellness Centers, Inc. He has extensive training in a number
of advanced manual therapies, including CranioSacral Therapy, SomatoEmotional
Release, Muscle Energy Technique, Somatic Therapy, Reflexology and
others. He maintains a private practice in Ft. Lauderdale in addition
to an active schedule teaching Continuing Education seminars throughout
Florida. |
REGISTRATION:
Seminars
are by advance registration only. Registration closes 7 days prior
to seminar date. Registration requires a $50 deposit with the balance
paid before or on the day of the seminar. Deposits/payments are
to be made to us by credit card by calling (239) 489-2282, or by
mailing a check made payable to Florida Academy of Massage &
Skin Care. There will be no refunds of deposits. Pre-payments will
be refunded in the event of non-attendance, less the $50 deposit.
